Adventures of Library Girl Blog

I would like to share this blog post from Adventures of Library Girl. She says it very well:

"Time and time again, studies have shown that students who are readers out perform their non-reading counterparts in multiple subject areas. But recent studies also suggest that students who read for pleasure also develop stronger senses of empathy and personal wellbeing.  In short, readers win at school and they also win at life."

1st Grade Ice Cream Synonyms!

I have been forgetting to blog about library lessons! I get so wrapped up in all the action it's hard to remember to post about it. Couldn't resist taking a picture of the first grade activity today though, the students all did a wonderful job. Here is a wonderful example of their creativity:

New Books!

We have received a wonderful donation from an anonymous source. That, along with what was raised during the book fair, has allowed our library to buy a lot of new books and furniture! Very exciting!

We now own all of the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems. And that is just the tip of the iceberg! More sneak peaks to come.

Share the love of reading this Valentine's Day!

Thank you McDonough teachers and staff for telling me what your favorite children's books are. We have the books out on display in the library for students to look at and borrow. The best way to encourage reading is to read! Students always ask for books that their teachers read with them or recommend to them!
